The island also has a marina with regular ferry services to the mainland towns of Airlie Beach and Shute Harbour, as well as to other Whitsunday islands. The ferry terminal is about 2 kilometres from the airport, and a shuttle bus operates between the two.

The nearest mainland city with a major airport is Proserpine (Whitsunday Coast Airport), approximately 30 kilometres away by road, but Hamilton Island's own airport makes it far more convenient for direct flights.
