Copa Airlines, operating under IATA code CM and ICAO code CMP, is the flag carrier of Panama and one of Latin America’s most respected airlines. Founded on June 15, 1947, as Compañía Panameña de Aviación, the airline began operations with a single Douglas DC-3 aircraft serving domestic and regional routes. Over the decades, it evolved into a major international carrier, rebranding as Copa Airlines in the 1960s. The airline is wholly owned by Copa Holdings, S.A., a publicly traded company whose largest shareholders include prominent Panamanian and international investors, ensuring a stable ownership structure that has supported consistent growth and modernization.

Copa Airlines operates an exclusively Boeing 737 family fleet, distinguishing itself with a streamlined, all-narrowbody configuration. The current fleet comprises Boeing 737-700s, 737-800s, 737-900ERs, and the more fuel-efficient 737 MAX 9s. This single-type strategy simplifies maintenance, crew training, and operational flexibility, contributing to one of the industry’s highest on-time performance rates. As of 2024, Copa operates approximately 100 aircraft, making it the largest operator of Boeing 737s in Latin America.
