Getting There

Tongoa Airport is accessible only by air or sea. From Port Vila, the capital on Efate Island, Air Vanuatu operates flights to Tongoa several times a week, taking about 45 minutes in a Twin Otter or similar aircraft. The airport is located near the village of Tavie, roughly 5 kilometres from the main settlement of Eua. There are no taxis or public transport on the island; pre-arranged hotel transfers or private vehicles are the only options for ground transport. If you arrive by boat, the nearest jetty is at Tavie Bay, about a 15-minute walk from the terminal, or a truck ride if arranged in advance. Walking is possible but unpaved roads can be muddy after rain. Most visitors fly in and are met by their accommodation provider. For self-guided travellers, hiring a truck from a local villager is possible — ask at the airport or in Eua. Fares are negotiated, typically around 1,000–2,000 Vatu per ride.

Inside the Terminal

The terminal at Tongoa Airport is a single-storey building with a check-in counter, a small waiting area, and a toilet — the only confirmed facility. There is no air conditioning, no food or drink vendor, and no duty-free shop. Passengers check in and receive a boarding pass, then wait in the open-air veranda until the aircraft arrives.
