Very nice Regional Airport. The Annual Truckee Airshow was pretty amazing this year. Good food with some nice airplanes to check out. It's free so next time bring the family and friends.
Beautiful aircrafts. Thank you Netjets and now FlexJets. Looksime they now provide Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)
A real hidden gem. Small area inside to eat and larger area outside. The food was really healthy tasting and yummy at the same time. In addition to this the prices were fantastic. Definitely coming back here again. Nice view of the small planes landing while you eat.
Truckee Tahoe Airport (KTRK) is a regional airport located in the town of Truckee, California, serving the greater Lake Tahoe area. It is a popular entry point for travelers heading to the ski resorts and outdoor recreation areas of the Sierra Nevada mountains. The airport primarily handles general aviation, including private aircraft and charter flights, but also accommodates scheduled commercial service during peak seasons. With its high altitude of 5,900 feet (1,800 meters) and scenic mountain setting, Truckee Tahoe Airport offers a unique arrival experience for those looking to avoid the longer drive from larger airports like Reno or Sacramento. The airport is known for its friendly service, free parking, and convenient access to the surrounding Tahoe region.
Truckee Tahoe Airport is situated at 10362 Truckee Airport Road, just south of downtown Truckee, California. It lies approximately 15 miles north of Lake Tahoe and about 30 miles west of Reno, Nevada. The airport sits within the Tahoe National Forest, surrounded by pine forests and mountain peaks.
Getting to the airport by car is straightforward. From Interstate 80, take the Truckee exit (Exit 184) and head south on Highway 267. The airport entrance is clearly marked and located just off the highway. Free parking is available on-site, with a designated wheelchair-accessible car park. For those arriving by public transport, the Truckee Tahoe Airport District operates limited shuttle services, but travelers are advised to arrange rental cars or rideshares as the airport has no direct public transit connection. Taxis and ride-hailing services like Uber and Lyft are available from the airport.
Nearby cities and towns include Truckee (2 miles), Kings Beach (10 miles), Tahoe City (15 miles), and Incline Village (10 miles). The airport is a convenient base for exploring the North Shore of Lake Tahoe, as well as the ski resorts of Palisades Tahoe, Northstar California, and Sugar Bowl.
Truckee Tahoe Airport offers a modest but functional set of amenities for travelers. The terminal building includes a waiting area with Wi-Fi access, allowing passengers to stay connected before their flight. Restrooms are available, including wheelchair-accessible toilets. The airport also provides a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a wheelchair-accessible car park, ensuring ease of movement for passengers with mobility challenges.
Parking at the airport is free, with ample space for both short-term and long-term stays. The lot is well-lit and secure. While the airport does not have a full-service restaurant or shops, vending machines are typically available in the terminal. Travelers may also find picnic tables outside. For those needing food or supplies, downtown Truckee is a short drive away, offering a variety of restaurants, grocery stores, and outdoor gear shops.
Other amenities include a flight planning area and pilot supplies, but these are primarily for general aviation users. The airport staff are known for being helpful and can provide information about local transportation and activities.
The Lake Tahoe region is world-famous for its stunning alpine beauty, deep blue waters, and year-round outdoor recreation. Truckee Tahoe Airport sits at the center of this playground. In winter, visitors flock to world-class ski resorts such as Squaw Valley (now Palisades Tahoe), Alpine Meadows, Northstar, and Sugar Bowl, all within a 30-minute drive. Snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing are also popular.
Summer brings hiking, mountain biking, fishing, and water sports on Lake Tahoe itself. The Tahoe Rim Trail and Pacific Crest Trail offer endless opportunities for exploration. The historic town of Truckee boasts a charming Old West atmosphere, with its downtown lined with wooden storefronts, boutiques, and restaurants. The nearby Donner Lake and Donner Memorial State Park provide additional recreational options and a glimpse into the region's pioneer history.
The airport is also a gateway to the Sierra Nevada backcountry, attracting adventure travelers and nature enthusiasts. The area's high altitude and dry climate create perfect conditions for outdoor activities, and the scenery is breathtaking year-round.
For those flying via commercial charters or seasonal airlines, it is advisable to confirm check-in procedures and baggage allowances with the specific carrier. The airport is small, so queues are typically minimal. Visitors should also be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions, especially in winter, and carry appropriate clothing for snow or cold temperatures.
