Pros: Parking cheap at $9/day and being just an easy surface lot steps from front door. TSA Security a singular lane way more relaxed and accessible than maze of typical int'l airport. Gate waiting area clean and cared for, looks more like a beautiful vaulted wooden beamed ceiling community center than a normal crusty airport. Plenty of outlets against the walls. Remote location off Hwy 10 gave me the most relaxing peaceful sunrise drive before a flight. The complete opposite of stressful Minneapolis traffic. The fog, fields, backroads, it was really a mystical drive. Cons: Arrival Checkin for chartered SunCountry trip I was on had untraditional 'check in' process with no technology computer use; just handed out preprinted paper boarding passes by alphabetized last names and highlighted passenger roster off a clipboard. Took forever with older demographic guests queue'd in squished lobby. WiFi wasn't happening for me on my Sept 16th morning. Banners and signs celebrated free WiFi from Arvig, but when selecting that Arvig network it prompted for a password and no signage or postings for what the actual password was. Lack of vendors and bathrooms on site. I'm sure tough profit balance with such limited flight activity foot traffic. But I bet some small businesses in St Cloud would love a chance to rent a rotatable stall a few hours a month to offer some food/bev options for passengers. And only two unisex bathrooms once past security for the whole departing Boeing 737, eek. Overall parking, access, TSA, gate distance was huge advantage and a novelty experience compared to MSP. But that's about it, a novelty. Back to the cities for the opportunity and destinations and full boards of resources. Thanks for a good experience and beautiful flight!
Hi, Deena. We appreciate the kind words and are glad we could provide you with a positive experience!
My husband and I were first time flyers out of St. Cloud airport and we are so impressed and happy with our decision to that we will rarely go anywhere else. All the workers were happy and in a good mood, they took their job seriously but they were polite and friendly and you could tell they all get along as co workers. Whoever manages employees is doing a darn good job cuz it seems like a very fun and comfortable environment to work in.
Hi, Courtney. Thank you so much for leaving us a stellar review!

St. Cloud Sky Central Airport sits about three miles southeast of downtown St Cloud, Minnesota, serving a metropolitan area of roughly 190,000 people. Originally built as a military airfield during World War II, it now operates as a regional airport handling general aviation, charter flights, and occasional scheduled commercial service. The airport has a single asphalt runway (5/23) measuring 7,000 feet, capable of accommodating aircraft as large as a Boeing 737. For passengers traveling to or from central Minnesota, St. Cloud Sky Central offers a quieter alternative to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, cutting drive times from the northern suburbs by over an hour.
St. Cloud Sky Central Airport is located at 4550 County Road 137, St Cloud, MN 56301. From downtown St Cloud, take Minnesota Highway 23 east and then head south on County Road 7 (Airport Road). The drive takes approximately 10 minutes. If you are coming from Minneapolis, take Interstate 94 west to Exit 178 (County Road 7), then head north for about 4 miles. The total distance from Minneapolis is roughly 70 miles, with a typical drive time of 1 hour and 15 minutes depending on traffic. From the western suburbs, Highway 15 leads directly into St Cloud. Parking at the airport is free and located adjacent to the terminal building — there are designated accessible spaces near the entrance. Taxis and rideshare services like Uber and Lyft operate in the area, but availability may be limited at off-peak hours. The nearest public transit connection is the St Cloud Metro Bus route 4, which stops at the intersection of County Road 137 and County Road 7, about a 20-minute walk from the terminal. For passengers connecting to larger hubs, daily shuttle services to MSP are available through companies like Groome Transportation, with pickup points in St Cloud.
The terminal at St. Cloud Sky Central is compact and straightforward. On arrival, you pass through a single door into a small lobby with a check-in counter and a waiting area. The airport is wheelchair-accessible throughout, including the entrance, car park, and restrooms. Each restroom includes a changing table and an accessible toilet. Wi-Fi is available free of charge — simply connect to the "Sky Central Guest" network. On-site services include a small vending area with snacks and drinks, but there is no restaurant or café, so plan to eat before arriving or bring your own. The security checkpoint uses a single x-ray machine and metal detector; wait times are generally under five minutes. Departures: after check-in, passengers can proceed directly to the secure side, which has about 30 seats. The boarding process relies on staff calling groups or rows; there is no jet bridge. For those waiting, the terminal has a small selection of local magazines and newspapers. Note that the airport is not open 24/7 — hours vary, but typically the terminal opens two hours before the first departure and closes after the last arrival. Confirming hours ahead of time is advisable.
St Cloud sits on the Mississippi River, about halfway between the Twin Cities and the northern lake country. The airport is a practical entry point for visitors drawn to the region's natural attractions — the nearby Sauk River Chain of Lakes, the Mississippi Headwaters north of Brainerd, and the hundreds of fishing and boating destinations within a two-hour drive. Within St Cloud itself, the Munsinger Gardens and Clemens Gardens offer 14 acres of formal flower displays along the river, a quiet spot for an afternoon walk. The city also holds the Stearns History Museum, which covers the region's German and Slavic immigrant heritage. For families, the Paramount Center for the Arts hosts live performances and art exhibits, while the St Cloud State University campus brings a youthful energy to downtown. Sports fans may catch a game at the Municipal Athletic Complex or the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. Beyond the city, the nearby town of Sauk Centre is the birthplace of Sinclair Lewis, and the Charles Lindbergh House in Little Falls (40 miles north) provides a glimpse into aviation history. The airport itself reflects the area's character — unpretentious, efficient, and closely tied to the community. It supports local businesses through corporate aviation, medical transport, and flight training. For many travelers, flying into St Cloud means avoiding the crowds of MSP while still having access to connecting flights through regional carriers like Sun Country or Delta Connection, depending on seasonal schedules.
The airport's website is https://stcloudairport.com/ — it provides real-time flight status, terminal hours, and contact details. For phone inquiries, call +1 320-255-7292. The terminal is generally open from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM Monday through Friday, with limited hours on weekends; check the website before traveling. There is no jet fuel available for private aircraft outside these hours. Parking is free, but spaces near the terminal fill quickly during peak events. One concrete tip: Arrive at least 45 minutes before your scheduled departure — while the airport is small, occasional charter groups or unusual delays can stretch the process. For longer stays, consider using the overflow lot at the south end of the terminal, which adds a two-minute walk.
