The Grant County Airport is a County owned and has been in operation since the 1950s. Advanced Air, our current air carrier, offers daily flights to Albuquerque and six weekly flights to Phoenix. Flight information is available at 800-393-7035. The USFS also has the Gila Tanker Base located at the airport, supporting firefighting efforts across the US Southwest.

I flew from Albuquerque to here on a King Air 350 operated by Advanced Airlines. It was a 45 minute layover to pick up a few more passengers and then fly onward to Phoenix. The airport is in a very rural area of New Mexico and the closest decent sized settlement is Silver City. Apparently you can get set up with a rental car if you schedule that in advance or get a ride into town from a van or bus of some kind. Just check their website or call them about that because I'm not 100% positive. I didn't need any transportation because I was just here on a layover but I enjoyed getting to see this airport. It was the first really small one I've visited. Prior to this I had only landed at/flown out of major international airports so it was awesome to finally get to see a small size one. And let me know tell you, this place is small. The terminal is a little building with a counter to check into your flight and 2 bathrooms. No vending machines or any other services are available. You can however walk outside to the parking lot to get some good views of the surrounding landscapes. That's what I did while waiting for the plane to leave again. The one advanced airline worker I interacted with at the check in counter was very nice and my two pilots were also extremely professional. I highly recommend advanced airlines if you need to fly to this area. Overall, the airport is small but interesting to see and the terrain itself is very beautiful to fly into. Employees and pilots were kind and it was a unique experience to visit here to say the least. 5/5 stars
Advanced Airline flight from Phx to GCA is a godsend, let's me fly in to see my parents at a moments notice, crew is always polite and helpful, always on time flights and airport is clean and well air conditioned on those scorching NM days.
Cute little airport tiny tiny tiny friendly staff easy to use met the pilot in the waiting area and chatted before the short flight to ABQ. Little twin prop felt like a private jet!!
This is a nice little airport but VERY remote. If you're looking for a quick stop to refuel there is a self service which is easily accessible and well lit at night. The terminal has restrooms but there is also a restroom at the building near the self serve fuel if the terminal is closed. A small airline operates out of this airport but you won't be dealing with a lot of air traffic. If you're looking to stop and do some brief exploring or get a quick bite to eat then this is not the place. You're better off going to Whiskey Creek or Deming which are closer to towns. It's an 18 mile trip each way into Silver City from this location and the taxi ride was $40 each way. The trip is about 30 minutes and you have to wait for the taxi to drive out to the airport if you don't schedule in advance. There is no rental car facility at the airport but you can arrange a rental car in advance through the Enterprise in town. There is a rental key drop box at the airport.
