Hidden gem! If you are flying across the country and usually have a layover in Dallas or Atlanta and hate it ... Consider a layover in Phoenix instead. You can take American Airlines short flight to Phoenix from an airport with less than a minute wait at TSA and a small friendly staff event at 5:30am. For those old enough to remember this is an old school airport where you actually walk on the tarmak to your plane. Close, no traffic easy in and easy out.
So stoked that this airport has commercial flights! I flew home with American, this airport was so nice and cozy. Almost cried at the free menstruation products in the restroom. And every single employee I interacted with here was cheerful and helpful. I'm going to try and schedule most of my flight in & out of CLD now
Absolute breeze to get in and out of this airport flying JSX. There is even a Budget rental car desk here. The location is very convenient to the rest of Carlsbad and parking is FREE! Yeah, free! There's an elevator that takes you from the parking lot to the actual airport. Why deal with the hassle of San Diego traffic to fly out of the city? I'm glad JSX moved their terminal up here because it clean, convenient and you don't have to deal with traffic. The landscaping is also very pretty at this airport and includes quite a few different flowering plants and a fish-themed waterfall fountain. The baggage claim is open air but covered. Very easy to get to with convenient drop off / pickup & lots of 2 hour parking near the terminal. Airport parking is just a few steps further and it's free. Very convenient for American Air and Jetsuite X. Security goes fast. This airport is centrally located in North San Diego County and is easy to get to from the 5, 15 and 78 freeways. Much more convenient and easier to get to and use that San Diego airport - especially with all the construction there. Ignore the negative comments: these are people who bought a house along a known airport and flight path and are now upset that planes use them & they can sometimes hear them. I worked directly under this flight path for almost a decade and it really isn't that bad.
