Busiest on Mondays around 2 pm — usually a little busy.
Very small airport with an equally small terminal. When you exit the plane you walk across the tarmac to the terminal. Inside it is very nicely decorated with artwork on the walls. What makes this place unique is the people. Everyone I talked to was knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. Outside away from the terminal the surrounding landscape is nicely gardened. I very much enjoyed the unique qualities of this airport.
It's an airport. Kinda sad and old. Gets a bunch of cancellations and delays due to fog. There is no food and the coffee shop is not good. There is a brand new parking lot though where they cut down all the trees and destroyed wildlife habitat.
Great little airport. You're less likely to be able to land after 10pm due to fog. They have maybe 6 flights in and out so check in was easy. Very nice people.
Easy, breezy, beautiful ACV! Friendly United staff and the TSA was pleasant. Parking is a breeze and you can be in your car and on the highway in under a minute. Great experience.
California Redwood Coast-Humboldt County Airport (ACV), located in McKinleyville, California, serves as the primary domestic gateway to the state's far north coast. Situated about 15 miles north of Eureka and a short drive from the towering redwoods of Redwood National and State Parks, the airport connects travelers to the region's natural wonders and small communities. ACV is a single-terminal facility handling scheduled flights from major carriers such as United Airlines and American Airlines, offering nonstop service to hubs like Denver, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. The airport's compact size means passengers can navigate it quickly, but it still provides essential services for a comfortable trip.
ACV offers a range of on-site services to meet passenger needs. The terminal building is fully accessible, with wheelchair-accessible car parking spaces, a level entrance, and accessible restrooms equipped with grab bars and low sinks. Regular toilet facilities are available, and family travelers will appreciate the presence of changing tables in restrooms. Free Wi-Fi is provided throughout the terminal, allowing you to stay connected before boarding. While dining options are limited, a small café or vending machines typically offer snacks and beverages. The airport also features a seating area with charging points for electronic devices. For those wanting to pick up a last-minute souvenir or reading material, a small gift shop is available (hours may vary).
The airport terminal is open to passengers on days when flights are scheduled. While the facility is not operational 24/7, it opens approximately two hours before the first departure and remains open until the last flight of the day has arrived. Peak passenger traffic tends to occur around 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM, when multiple departures are scheduled. Check-in and security lines can be longer during these windows, so arriving at least 90 minutes before your flight is advisable for domestic travel. Individual airline check-in counters and the TSA security checkpoint operate according to flight schedules, so confirm your specific flight's departure time with your carrier.
For general inquiries or assistance, you can reach the airport administration office via phone at +1 707-839-5401. The official website, https://www.flyacv.com/, provides up-to-date flight information, parking details, and terminal maps. Mail can be sent to the airport's physical address: California Redwood Coast-Humboldt County Airport, 3561 Boeing Avenue, McKinleyville, CA 95519. For lost and found items, contact the airport's management office directly. Parking is available on-site in both short-term and long-term lots, with rates listed on the website. Rental car counters are located inside the terminal, with major brands represented.
ACV is easily accessible via Highway 101, with clear signage from the freeway. The airport is about a 20-minute drive from downtown Eureka and 30 minutes from Arcata. Taxis and ride-sharing services operate at the airport, but availability may vary. Limited public transit is provided by Humboldt Transit Authority, with Route 20 stopping near the airport entrance. For those driving, the parking lots are a short walk from the terminal; a free shuttle runs between the remote lot and the terminal during peak hours. The airport's compact layout makes it easy to walk from check-in to the gate in under five minutes.
Humboldt County Airport plays a vital role in connecting the sparsely populated Redwood Coast with the rest of the United States. The region relies heavily on aviation for business travel, medical transport, and tourism, as the nearest major airports are several hours away by car. ACV's scenic approach over the Pacific Ocean and redwood forests offers a memorable arrival experience. While the airport is small, its importance to the local economy and accessibility to outdoor attractions (including the Avenue of the Giants, Humboldt Bay, and Patrick's Point State Park) makes it a key transportation hub for the North Coast.
