Tldr; very good small airport. First, there's easy and great public transit to and from the airport running every few minutes. Alternatively, there are multiple rental car companies and booths just outside the arrival gate, provide a huge option and variety for different conditions. Second, the airport has both the domestic and international terminals very close, making it easy to switch. The immigration is smooth and easy, taking only 1-2 minutes once reached. Third, there are multiple services available, including exchanges, ATMs, sim card machines, luggage wraps, cafes, eateries and lounges. Finally, there's Wi-Fi available for free for 1h (see code in picture). The toilets are clean and provide even free showers (near the luggage wrapping service). Unfortunately, the land side area is wide open and is not AC'd and has only some fans, making it not the most pleasant experience
My arrival in Mahe last August was quite impressive. Coming from Addis Ababa (one of the world's highest-altitude airports), I was amazed to land on this runway, one of the lowest in altitude. Kudos for the modern approach: the systematic biometric image capture of all passengers at immigration is a great feature. It shows a commitment to modernization, strengthening security while paving the way for paperless travel. Cons (Immigration Service): Unfortunately, the professionalism of the immigration officers needs serious review. Despite having all my documents in order (and traveling Business Class), my hotel's non-prepayment (policy of payment upon check-in) led to unjustified overzealousness. I was subjected to a lengthy interrogation, asked to prove my solvency, which led to a complete and intrusive search of my luggage. It was only after failing to find any illegal items that they finally proceeded to check the validity of my bank cards on the terminal. This lack of good judgment wastes time and creates unnecessary stress. Conclusion: The infrastructure is modern, but staff training needs to improve so that the welcome reflects the high-end image of this destination.
Seychelles International Airport is one of the coziest and most efficient airports I've ever passed through. From the moment you arrive, everything moves quickly and smoothly - perfect for both arrivals and departures. What truly stood out to me was the friendliness of the staff. Even at passport control, which is usually the most serious part of any airport, the officers greeted passengers with warm smiles. It really sets the tone for the entire Seychelles experience. The airport has all the basic amenities you'd expect: clean facilities, clear signage, and easy navigation. However, I do wish the duty-free area had a wider selection of local souvenirs. A few more authentic items would have made last-minute gift shopping much easier. Still, overall, it's a charming little airport that makes both hellos and goodbyes pleasant.
