From Manila, the nearest major city is about 350 kilometres northwest as the crow flies, but overland travel takes 12–15 hours via winding mountain roads to Ilagan (the provincial capital) and then a further 6–8 hours on rough tracks. Flight time from Cauayan Airport (near Ilagan) is roughly 30 minutes, or from Manila about 1.5 hours by charter plane. Within Palanan, tricycles and jeepneys meet flights to transport passengers into town (10–15 minutes).
