Naryn Airport sits at 2,000 metres above sea level in the central Tian Shan mountains of Kyrgyzstan, serving the administrative and cultural centre of Naryn Province. Getting There

For those driving, the road is paved and well-maintained, but during winter months snow and ice can make the final approach slippery — travellers should carry tyre chains and check weather conditions in advance. The single-level structure houses a check-in area, a security screening point, and a small waiting room. The region is also on the ancient Silk Road: the Torugart Pass, a high-altitude border crossing into China, lies 160 kilometres to the east. The airport thus serves both domestic travellers connecting to Bishkek (flights take about 1 hour 20 minutes) and international visitors exploring off-the-beaten-path Kyrgyzstan. The local culture is deeply tied to nomadism; horse riding is a primary mode of transport in the countryside, and many families still move to summer pastures (jailoos) with their livestock.
