It's a small airport, but it has everything you need, including air conditioning, restrooms, free Wi-Fi, and drink vending machines. Check-in closes 30 minutes before departure. Each person has a 5kg free baggage allowance at check-in; any excess is subject to a fee. This baggage allowance includes both carry-on and checked luggage. When going through security, the counter staff will check the contents of each bag. Liquids are allowed on board, which is unique. During boarding, the staff will call out your seat and guide you to the boarding area.
It is a locally managed airport operated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Bureau of Port and Harbor. The New Central Airlines service connecting Miyakejima and Chofu in Tokyo is an important route, just like the ships. Toho Airlines also operates the "Tokyo Airland Shuttle" helicopter service. ANA previously operated a route between Haneda Airport and Miyakejima Airport, but this service was discontinued. As such, it is not a problem if the runway is shortened, so it seems that the unusual measure of shortening the runway will be taken, partly as a way of reducing the maintenance costs of Miyakejima Airport. Due to the influence of volcanic gases, wind direction seems to be particularly important at this airport.
