Busiest on Mondays around 10 am — usually as busy as it gets.
I have never seen such a bad country. We were 40 people departing at 2pm for the 8:10pm flight. But the traffic jam was terrible, the car could not move, although we tried to get off the car and ask to give way to go in another direction, but the traffic was still jammed. We had to get off the car and transfer to the train, but when we arrived at the train station, it suddenly stopped working because they said the entire staff was on strike. We had to drag our luggage and take the airport bus. The bus driver said that no one was allowed to bring luggage on the bus, including carry-on luggage. My colleague had to put his LV suitcase under the trunk of the car and it was eventually stolen. We tried to move as fast as possible while the flight was announced to be delayed until 10:20pm. And when we arrived at the airport at 9pm, the staff informed us that the check-in counter had just closed 10 minutes ago. We tried to ask them to open the counter but it took 20 minutes for 2 people to come out and say no. All had to buy 40 completely new tickets to return to Vietnam. The special thing on the new flight was VNA, We were also delayed by 1.00 more hours, However, the reason for the delay was because a passenger had trouble with transit procedures. Why is there such a difference? You have no humanity! A civilized country But theft, serious traffic congestion, indifferent staff. So disappointed with this country!
Dear Nguyen, We are very sorry for the unfortunate events that left such a negative impression of Italy on you. We regret that your late arrival at check-in resulted in you having to purchase new tickets. Please note that the aircraft and passenger assistance service is provided by the handling company acting on behalf of the airline. We suggest you send a detailed report to the airline you flew with, including the date and flight number. Lastly, even though none of the reported events were the responsibility of the airport, we would like to apologise for the experiences that spoiled the last day of your holiday, and we hope you will give us another chance to show you Italian hospitality in the future! For departures I found Termimal 1 baggage checkpoint staff very friendly and courteous. Moved quickly. However, the process is kinda "choppy". First you go all the way to the far left of the terminal to check-in with your airline. Then you go back past all that again, all the way to the far right to go through security for Passport check. Then you go back all the way down to second level to catch your flight. Depending on your flight gate that could be another long journey. Whew!
Dear Wayne, we are really glad you appreciated the kindness of the personnel at Malpensa airport. We are sorry you were not as satisfied with the general experience on departure, due to the long distances for the check in of your flight. The enhanced security measures applied to USA flights have determined the need to use this dedicated area. We hope your next flight from/to Milano Malpensa will be more pleasant and stress free. My experience arriving at Milan Malpensa Airport was extremely frustrating due to the unacceptable wait times at passport control. We have been waiting in line for over two hours (or more than 2+ hours), and the queue movement has been incredibly slow. This is a major international airport, and such excessive delays are completely unacceptable. It shows a severe lack of planning, organization, and adequate staffing to handle the volume of arriving passengers. The long wait has caused significant stress, delays to our travel plans, and an extremely poor first impression of the airport's efficiency. Malpensa Airport management must urgently address this chronic issue and ensure sufficient border staff are available, especially during peak arrival times. Passengers deserve a much smoother and quicker process than this."
Dear Chutika, we are really sorry for the long lines at passport control. Unfortunately this is independent from the airport will. Only the Police has the right to check documents and the officers are provided by the Ministry of Interior according to their evaluation of the daily requirement. Also, the checks can be of different levels, according to risk assessment. We are working with the Police management to improve the service, but it really is difficult to find solutions at the moment. Customer Care team - Milan Airports

Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) is the largest international airport serving Milan and the wider Lombardy region in northern Italy. Terminal 1, located in Ferno, is the main passenger terminal and handles the vast majority of commercial flights, including intercontinental, European, and domestic services. It is the primary hub for Italy's flag carrier and a key gateway for travellers heading to Milan, the Italian Lakes, the Swiss border, and the Alps. The airport is a major point of entry for business travellers heading to Milan's financial and fashion districts, as well as leisure tourists exploring the historic cities of northern Italy or the scenic landscapes of Piedmont and Lombardy.
Terminal 1 is situated approximately 50 kilometres northwest of central Milan, in the comune of Ferno, within the Province of Varese. The airport lies near the Ticino River and is close to the A8 and A26 motorways, providing direct road connections to Milan, Turin, and the Swiss border at Chiasso. Free Wi-Fi is provided throughout the terminal, allowing passengers to stay connected. For families travelling with infants, there are baby changing tables and a dedicated nursing room, providing a private and comfortable space for feeding. Standard toilet facilities are located throughout the terminal. Please note that while the airport itself operates daily, some services or airline check-in counters may have restricted hours; it is advisable to confirm opening times for specific amenities closer to travel.
Milan Malpensa serves as the primary air gateway for Lombardy, one of Italy's most economically dynamic and culturally rich regions. Milan itself is a global capital of fashion, design, and finance, home to iconic landmarks such as the Duomo, La Scala opera house, and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Beyond the city, the region offers the romantic Lake Como, a popular destination for its picturesque villages and villas, and Lake Maggiore, with its Borromean Islands. To the north, the Italian Alps provide year-round outdoor activities, from skiing in winter to hiking in summer. The airport also lies within easy reach of the historic cities of Bergamo, Brescia, and Verona, as well as the Swiss canton of Ticino. The area around the airport itself is characterised by the flat landscape of the Po Valley, with agricultural fields and small towns.
