It is a single-terminal airport, handling both arrivals and departures under one roof. The airport sees peak passenger flow in the afternoon hours around 1 pm and 2 pm, coinciding with popular flight schedules. Srinagar Airport is located about 15 km (9 miles) south of the city centre, in the district of Budgam. The airport lies in a valley surrounded by the Zabarwan mountain range, with the famous Dal Lake situated to the northeast. Access to the airport is primarily via the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway (NH 44), which connects the airport to the city and beyond. Taxis and app-based ride services are the most common means of transport for passengers. Prepaid taxi counters are available outside the terminal. Local buses also ply along the route, though they are less frequent and not always direct. For those driving, the airport offers a paid parking lot. The journey from the city centre typically takes 30–45 minutes depending on traffic. Given the sensitive border region, security checkpoints are common on approach roads, and travellers should allow extra time.
