Busiest on Mondays around 10 pm — usually as busy as it gets.
Close to Ghaziabad & East Delhi Very basic terminal setup Smooth, lengthy check-ins and security Limited dining, shopping, and seating options Affordable, UDAN-based regional flights Poor cab/taxi/connectivity and infrastructure Less crowded than IGI Airport Lack of lounges and premium services Fast-growing airline network, especially with IndiGo Shared runway with military limits expansion speed. Hindon Airport serves well as a fast, convenient alternative to Delhi's IGI for low-cost domestic travel--but it remains a no-frills terminal, ideal only if you value efficiency over comfort. For frequent travellers or those flying during peak hours, facilities may feel cramped until current expansion plans are completed.
If you're expecting a typical airport experience, prepare to be disappointed. Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad feels more like a neglected bus stand than a functioning airport. The gates open at 5:30 AM, and if you arrive earlier, you're left stranded outside--with no waiting area, no seating, and absolutely no basic amenities, no security. You're literally stuck standing on a road divider. The lack of infrastructure is shocking. No shelter, no restrooms, no staff presence--just a locked gate and a long, uncomfortable wait. It's hard to believe this place is meant to serve air travelers. The setup is so barebones, it's almost surreal. This airport is a case study in poor planning and disregard for passenger comfort. Visit it once, and you'll understand why it's unforgettable--for all the wrong reasons.
Worst airport I have ever been to. Everything is disorganized here. There was a long queue at check-in and the screening area when I reached the airport, yet the staff were very slow in doing their duties. At the baggage screening area, the staff asked me to carry both of my bags with me to the plane, even though announcements were being made that only one bag is allowed inside. Later, when I went to collect my boarding pass, another staff member told me to return one bag to the luggage area. After I explained what had happened earlier, he finally allowed me to take both bags with me.The security check was also very slow. The airport is small and does not have enough seating for all passengers. It still has a long way to go before it can be considered a decent domestic airport. If you are traveling to or from Delhi, try to avoid this airport to make your journey less complicated. You will most likely dislike it. Having a gem like Delhi Airport nearby makes this one feel even less appealing, with limited facilities and painfully slow service.
This is the civil terminal of the Hindon Airport. It's a basic domestic airport, but organized well. If you just want to board your flight and take off to your destination then you can book flight from here. There is no lounge/ variety of food options here. Visit not before 2 hours of your flight. Cleanliness can be improved. Nearest Delhi Metro Station is : Shaheed Nagar on Red Line.
Hindon Airport is a domestic airport located in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, serving the eastern fringe of the National Capital Region (NCR). Operated by the Airports Authority of India, it was originally an Indian Air Force base before opening for civilian flights in 2019. The airport primarily handles small regional aircraft and offers scheduled flights to destinations like Pithoragarh, Hubli, and Kishangarh, providing an alternative to the congested Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. It is particularly popular among passengers from Ghaziabad, Noida, and Meerut who seek quicker check-in and shorter travel times within the region. Hindon Airport plays a key role in improving regional connectivity and reducing pressure on Delhi's main airport.
Hindon Airport is situated on the Hindon River floodplain, about 15 kilometres east of central Ghaziabad and approximately 25 kilometres from Delhi's eastern districts. The address is Hindon Airport, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh 201004. By road, it is accessible via National Highway 9 (NH9) and the Delhi–Meerut Expressway. From Delhi, the journey typically takes 45–60 minutes via the DND Flyway or Anand Vihar. Local transport options include taxis, auto-rickshaws, and ride-sharing services. The nearest metro station is Vaishali on the Delhi Metro's Blue Line, about 10 kilometres away, from where a taxi or bus can complete the journey. The airport's compact size means parking is limited but adequate for the current traffic levels.
As a small domestic airport, Hindon offers essential amenities for passengers. The terminal is wheelchair-accessible, with a dedicated car park, entrance, and toilets designed for individuals with reduced mobility. Baggage storage is available, allowing travellers to explore the area without carrying luggage. The restroom facilities include baby changing tables, making it family-friendly. On-site services encompass a small waiting area, flight information displays, and basic retail outlets. However, given the limited scale, passengers should not expect extensive dining or shopping options – a few snack counters and vending machines are typically present. Peak hours are reported around 9 pm and 10 pm, suggesting that evening flights form the bulk of operations. It is advisable to arrive at least one hour before departure.
Ghaziabad, part of the NCR, is a bustling industrial and residential hub. The airport's location on the banks of the Hindon River places it in a historically significant area, with the river having been a source of water and trade for centuries. The region is known for its rapid urban development, connecting Delhi with Uttar Pradesh. Travellers visiting Ghaziabad often pass through to reach Delhi's iconic landmarks – the Red Fort, India Gate, and Qutub Minar – or to travel onward to Uttarakhand's hill stations. The area also serves as a transit point for pilgrims visiting Haridwar and Rishikesh. Business travellers frequently use Hindon to avoid Delhi traffic. The airport itself is close to the Hindon Air Force Station, a key base of the Indian Air Force, lending the site a dual-use character.
Hindon Airport is not open for operations every day; flight schedules vary by season and carrier, so travellers must verify availability before planning their trip. The terminal typically opens a few hours before scheduled departures. The phone number is +91 120 350 6551, and the official website is https://www.aai.aero/en/airports/hindon for flight updates and inquiries. Given the peak hours around 9 and 10 pm, passengers on late evening flights should plan transport accordingly, as public transport options may be limited at night. The airport lacks a dedicated hotel, but several accommodations are available in nearby Ghaziabad. For those needing currency exchange or ATMs, the airport has basic services but it's wise to carry cash for taxis and snacks.
