Latur Airport is a regional airport located in Akharwai, on the outskirts of Latur, Maharashtra, India. It serves as a domestic gateway for the Marathwada region, connecting the area primarily with major cities like Mumbai and Hyderabad. The airport is relatively small in scale, catering to regional air traffic and providing essential services for passengers traveling to and from this agricultural and industrial hub. Latur itself is known for its significant role in Maharashtra's sugar and pulses production, and the airport supports business and leisure travel in the region.
Situated about 12 kilometers from Latur city center, the airport is easily accessible by road. It plays a vital role in reducing travel time for locals who previously had to rely on airports in Aurangabad or Hyderabad. The airport's operations are focused on regional connectivity, and it is particularly important during the harvest season when business travelers and traders frequent the area. The airport's single runway handles turboprop aircraft, such as the ATR 72, used by airlines operating on this route. While not a major international hub, Latur Airport is an essential piece of regional infrastructure, supporting economic growth and tourism in the Marathwada region.
Latur Airport offers a selection of essential amenities to ensure a comfortable experience for passengers. The facility is wheelchair accessible, with designated parking spaces, an accessible entrance, and accessible toilets. Baggage storage services are available for travelers who need to temporarily store their luggage. Standard restroom facilities are provided, including a changing table for families with infants. While the airport is compact, these amenities cover the basic needs of most passengers. Travelers should note that dining and shopping options are limited, so it is advisable to bring snacks or meals if needed.
Please note that Latur Airport is not open 24 hours a day. The airport operates during limited hours that correspond with scheduled flight arrivals and departures. It is recommended to confirm your flight's timing with the airline and arrive at the airport approximately one hour before departure for domestic flights. The terminal building may be closed during times with no scheduled flights, so planning ahead is essential.
For inquiries, passengers can contact the airport management at +91 11 2463 2950. This number may connect to the Airports Authority of India's regional office in Delhi, so be prepared to specify Latur Airport for assistance. There is no official website dedicated solely to Latur Airport, but flight information and bookings can be made through airline websites or travel platforms. Direct communication with the airport is limited, so travelers are encouraged to reach out to their airline for real-time updates on schedules and services.
Given the airport's limited hours and amenities, passengers should plan ahead. Arrange transportation to and from the airport in advance, as public transport options are sparse. Taxis and private vehicles are the most reliable means of access. Since food and beverage options are not confirmed among the amenities, consider carrying water and snacks. The airport's small size means security and check-in processes are typically quick, but patience is advised during peak travel times when flights are scheduled.
Latur Airport serves as a convenient regional hub for the Marathwada region, providing essential air connectivity with basic amenities. Its focus on accessibility and baggage storage makes it functional for most passengers, though its limited operating hours require careful planning. For the most current information on flights and services, contact the airline or use the provided phone number. Latur Airport remains a vital asset for the local community and a practical option for travelers visiting this part of Maharashtra.
