Getting There

Diu Airport sits about 6 kilometres west of Diu town centre, near the village of Nagoa. The journey from the main bus stand or the jetty area takes 15 to 20 minutes by taxi or auto-rickshaw. Taxis charge a fixed rate of around ₹300–₹400 one way; auto-rickshaws are cheaper at ₹150–₹200 but less comfortable with luggage. Most hotels in Diu can arrange airport transfers for a similar price. The road runs along the coast past the Diu Fort and the famous Nagoa Beach – a scenic ride that gives first-time visitors a quick taste of the island's landscape.

If you are arriving by road from Gujarat, the nearest major city is Veraval, about 90 kilometres north-east. Buses from Veraval to Diu take roughly 2.5 hours and drop passengers at the Diu bus stand, from where you can catch an auto-rickshaw to the airport. There is no direct public transport from the airport to the town; you must rely on taxis or pre-arranged pickups. The airport has a small car park for private vehicles, but parking is free and rarely full.

Inside the Terminal

The terminal at Diu Airport is a single-story building with a functional layout. On arrival, passengers walk from the aircraft across the apron to a small baggage claim area – there is no jet bridge. The baggage carousel is compact, and bags usually appear within ten minutes of landing. The terminal has a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a wheelchair-accessible car park, with ramps provided. Inside, there is a wheelchair-accessible toilet and a separate standard toilet. A changing table is available in the accessible restroom.

Beyond the party scene, Diu offers quieter pursuits: the island has several freshwater lakes, salt pans where flamingos gather in winter, and a turtle nesting site at Galatpur beach.

The airport's limited schedule reflects Diu's tourism pattern. Flights are concentrated on long weekends and holidays, when the island's hotels fill up. During the monsoon (June–September), flights may be cancelled due to weather, and the airport is sometimes closed entirely. Travelers should check the airline's schedule well in advance and avoid planning critical connections on Tuesday or Wednesday, when flights are unlikely.

Diu's cultural heritage is visible in everyday life. The local dialect, influenced by Portuguese, is spoken alongside Gujarati. The cuisine features seafood and Goan-style dishes, with vindaloo and fish curry common. The Sunday market near the fort sells everything from spices to local handicrafts. For most visitors, Diu is a place to slow down, and the airport's unhurried pace sets the tone from arrival.
