Busiest on Mondays around 3 pm — usually as busy as it gets.
The think that you are allowed 1L of liquids, but they provide a very small bag (4/4cm2) ie mind blowing. Same issues as in Paris Beauvais...no technology, it feels like 60 years ago. The sum of all of my liquids was less than 500ml but I had to throw some of them away
It's small but very effective! Lovely arrival and easy access to buses, taxis and Ubers!
Small clean well organized airport, friendly and patient security. Good view of runway from the departure gate. Plenty of taxis available on arrival. Would fly there again.
The worst airport I've ever been. They say you should fit your liquids in a 1L bag. The sum of all my liquids wasn't even the half of that. Despite this, they threw me half of them so I had to travel without a lot of personal hygiene stuff. Moreover, the guys on the control were so rude and mean.
Turku Airport (IATA: TKU) is a regional airport serving the city of Turku and the wider Southwest Finland region. It is operated by Finavia, the state-owned enterprise that manages most Finnish airports. While smaller than Helsinki-Vantaa, Turku Airport handles a mix of domestic and international flights, primarily from Finnish and European carriers. The airport is used by both leisure travellers heading to the Turku archipelago or visiting the city's historic sites, and business passengers working in the region's shipbuilding, technology, and pharmaceutical industries. The airport's single terminal handles all arrivals and departures efficiently, with a layout that makes navigation straightforward.
Turku Airport is located about 8 kilometres north of Turku city centre, in the district of Tampereentie/Lentokenttä. The airport is well connected by road: it lies along Highway 9 (E63) between Turku and Tampere, and is easily reachable from the city centre via the E18 ring road. For those driving, a paid parking lot is available directly in front of the terminal, with both short-term and long-term spaces. Public transport includes local buses (Föli) route 1, which runs from the Turku Market Square to the airport several times an hour during daytime. Journey time to the centre is approximately 20–25 minutes. Taxis and ride-sharing services operate from the rank just outside arrivals. For cyclists, there is a bicycle parking area, though the airport is not directly on major cycle routes. The nearest cities beyond Turku include Raisio (12 km), Naantali (18 km), and Salo (50 km). The airport also serves as a secondary gateway to the Archipelago Sea, with connections to the ferry ports in Turku for services to Stockholm and the Åland Islands.
Despite its compact size, Turku Airport offers a range of facilities to ensure a comfortable journey. The terminal is fully wheelchair-accessible: there is a wheelchair-accessible car park close to the entrance, accessible doorways, and a wheelchair-accessible toilet. Baggage storage is available for travellers who wish to explore the region without their luggage. The airport provides free Wi-Fi throughout the terminal, allowing passengers to work or browse. Clean toilet facilities are located in the departures and arrivals areas, and there is a baby changing table in the accessible toilet. The airport's café and shop offer light snacks, hot and cold drinks, and travel essentials. While there is no full-service restaurant or duty-free beyond security due to the limited number of international flights, the nearby city centre provides ample dining options. The paid parking lot is convenient for those arriving by car, with clear signage and both cash and card payment options.
Turku is Finland's oldest city and former capital, founded in the 13th century. The region of Southwest Finland is known for its rich history, including Turku Castle, Turku Cathedral, and the medieval Old Town. The nearby Turku Archipelago is one of the most beautiful archipelagos in the world, featuring thousands of islands, ferry routes, and opportunities for boating, fishing, and cycling. The area is a hub for sustainable tourism and is part of the Archipelago Trail. Culturally, Turku is home to several museums, the Turku Art Museum, and the annual Turku Medieval Market. Economically, the region is strong in shipbuilding (Meyer Turku), information technology, and the pharmaceutical industry. The airport supports both leisure travellers exploring these attractions and business travellers working in these sectors.
The airport is not open 24 hours a day; operating hours vary, so passengers should confirm their flight times and check-in early. Peak hours are typically around midday and 1 pm, when several flights depart. For detailed information on parking, flight schedules, and services, contact Finavia: phone +358 20 7084717, or visit the official website at http://www.finavia.fi/lentoasemat/lentoasema_turku. For accessibility requests, passengers should contact their airline or airport information desk in advance. Baggage storage is available but may have limited hours; check upon arrival. As a regional airport, it's recommended to arrive at least 1.5 hours before a domestic flight and 2 hours before an international departure. The airport code TKU is used for all bookings.
