Busiest on Mondays around 6 pm — usually as busy as it gets.
This place is tiny, probably much too small to serve the number of people who come through here to enjoy the numerous beaches that are easily accessible from here. Not withstanding, they are pretty efficient for how crowded it is, a serviceable airport.
new airport, everything is very clean, the places are all new, very nice. It was my first time in the city, without a doubt, I really liked it and I recommend you to visit Navegantes.
Speedy service and spacious interiors. Still lacking on premium amenities such as Lounges and decorations.
Arrived for an international flight 3 hours before my 6:20am flight and the airport was closed. After knocking a few times, the security guard let us in and explained that the gate/ airline check in didn't open until 4:30am. Nothing was opened until 4:30am. As an international airport that only conducts regional flights, they should have some sort of 24 hours convenience store for 6am flights...otherwise, do not offer these flights. We have a small child and had to wait for 1.5 hours for anything to open and to check our bags. Definitely room for improvement.
Navegantes International Airport (IATA: NVT, ICAO: SBNF) serves as the main air gateway for the Itajaí Valley region in the state of Santa Catarina, southern Brazil. It handles a mix of domestic flights and seasonal international charter services, primarily catering to tourists heading to coastal resorts such as Balneário Camboriú, as well as business travelers linked to the port of Itajaí—one of Brazil's busiest cargo ports. The airport is operated by CCR Aeroportos and has undergone modernisation in recent years to accommodate growing passenger numbers.
The airport is located in the municipality of Navegantes, on the northern coast of Santa Catarina, approximately 8 km (5 miles) from the city center and about 12 km (7.5 miles) south of Itajaí. It sits on a narrow strip of land between the Atlantic Ocean and the Itajaí-Açu River, giving it a distinctive coastal setting.
By car: The airport is easily accessible via BR-470 and BR-101 highways. Paid parking is available on-site in a dedicated lot. The car park is wheelchair-accessible, with designated spaces close to the terminal entrance.
By taxi or rideshare: Taxis and app-based services operate regularly from the terminal. The journey to Balneário Camboriú takes about 30–40 minutes, while Itajaí city center is roughly 15 minutes away.
By bus: Public bus lines connect the airport to Navegantes and nearby towns, but services may be limited. Many passengers prefer private transfers or rental cars for more flexibility.
Nearby cities served include Itajaí (port and industrial hub), Balneário Camboriú (beach tourism), Camboriú, and Brusque. The airport also acts as an alternative for Florianópolis, about 100 km south, though most traffic is regional.
Navegantes International Airport provides a range of passenger amenities designed to improve comfort and accessibility:
Accessibility: The terminal is equipped with wheelchair-accessible entrances, seating, and toilets. Wheelchair rental is available on request, and an assistive hearing loop system is installed in key areas. The airport is noted for being LGBTQ+ friendly and maintains a transgender safe space, reflecting inclusive policies.
Baggage storage: Left luggage services are offered for passengers who wish to explore the area without carrying bags. Check with the information desk for rates and hours.
Toilets and baby care: Restrooms are located throughout the terminal. Changing tables are provided in accessible toilets for families with infants.
Connectivity: Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport. Passengers can connect to the network without requiring a password, though speed may vary during peak hours.
Parking: A paid parking lot operates directly in front of the terminal. It is wheelchair-accessible and offers short-term and long-term options.
Other services: The terminal includes a small food court, shops selling souvenirs and travel essentials, and car rental desks. Note that peak hours for passenger traffic are around 5 PM and 6 PM, so expect longer queues at check-in and security during those times.
The Itajaí Valley is known for its strong economy driven by the port of Itajaí, textile industries, and tourism. The region's coastline features iconic beaches like Praia de Balneário Camboriú, Praia Brava, and Praia dos Amores, attracting both Brazilian and international visitors. Balneário Camboriú, in particular, is famous for its skyline of high-rise buildings bordering the beach, the Unipraias cable car, and vibrant nightlife.
Inland, towns such as Brusque and Blumenau offer German-influenced architecture, festivals like Oktoberfest, and craft beer culture. The area is also a gateway for ecotourism in the Atlantic Forest, with hiking trails and waterfalls found in nearby parks like Parque Estadual da Serra do Tabuleiro.
The port of Itajaí handles significant cargo volumes, including containers, frozen goods, and vehicles, making the airport important for business travelers in logistics and export industries.
Operating Hours: The airport is not open 24 hours. Its operating times align with scheduled flights, typically from early morning until late evening. Passengers should check flight times and arrive at least two hours before domestic departures. The terminal may close overnight when no flights are scheduled.
