The airport has excellent infrastructure, but it's underutilized. It's sad to see a place that could be contributing to the local economy but isn't being used for that purpose.
One of the best and most organized airports I've ever visited. Managed by INFRACEA Aeroportos, it makes us proud to see the level of professional commitment of its employees, in addition to the excellent customer service. Congratulations to everyone who makes this airport operate in the Serra Plateau of Santa Catarina.
Small, with little infrastructure. Reasonable service. Azul is the only operator at the moment.
Federal Airport Antonio Correia Pinto de Macedo is a regional airport serving the city of Lages in the state of Santa Catarina, southern Brazil. Named after the founder of Lages, this facility primarily handles general aviation, including small regional aircraft, charter flights, and air taxi services. While it is not a major commercial hub, the airport plays a key role for business travellers, medical evacuations, and tourists heading to the highlands of the Serra Catarinense. The airport supports connections to larger centres such as Florianópolis and São Paulo, though scheduled services are limited and often seasonal. Its operations are essential for the local economy, particularly for agriculture, forestry, and the growing tourism sector.
The airport is situated approximately 10 kilometres from downtown Lages, on the outskirts near the intersection of federal highways BR-116 and BR-282. This location provides convenient road access for travellers arriving from other parts of Santa Catarina and neighbouring states. Most passengers reach the airport by private vehicle or taxi; public transport options are minimal. The airport features a wheelchair-accessible car park, ensuring ease of access for passengers with reduced mobility. Lages itself lies on the Planalto Serrano, a plateau at an altitude of around 900 metres, making it one of the highest cities in Brazil. The nearest major city is Florianópolis, roughly 200 kilometres to the east, while other regional centres like Curitibanos and São Joaquim are also within driving distance.
Despite its modest size, the airport offers a few essential amenities. Confirmed facilities include:
These features make the airport relatively accessible for passengers with mobility challenges. Baggage storage is useful for travellers who wish to explore the region without their luggage. However, as a regional airport, there are no confirmed retail shops, restaurants, or lounges. Passengers should plan accordingly, bringing any food or supplies needed before arrival. The airport’s facilities are clean and well-maintained, reflecting its functional role for the Lages community.
Lages is the main hub of the Serra Catarinense, a mountainous region known for its cool climate, Araucaria forests, and winter tourism. The area experiences some of Brazil’s coldest temperatures, with occasional frost and even snow during winter months (June to August). This attracts visitors seeking a winter escape, as well as those interested in ecotourism. Highlights include the nearby São Joaquim National Park, canyons like Canyon do Rio do Rastro (though farther), and numerous waterfalls. The region is also famous for its apple and grape production, with many wineries and orchards open for visits. Culturally, Lages is celebrated for the Romaria de Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres, a large religious pilgrimage that draws thousands each year. The economic base includes forestry, paper manufacturing, and agriculture. The airport thus supports not only tourism but also business travel related to these industries.
The airport does not operate daily; it is open on specific days of the week, though exact schedules may vary. Peak hours are observed around 8 pm and 9 pm, suggesting higher activity in the evening. Passengers should confirm operating hours directly with the airport administration before planning travel.

The airport code (IATA: LAJ, ICAO: SBLJ) is often used for flight searches. Remember to carry all necessary identification and check baggage policies with your airline in advance.
As a regional facility, the airport offers a straightforward, no-frills experience focused on functionality. Plan ahead for dining and transport, and enjoy the natural beauty of the Santa Catarina highlands.
