Busiest on Mondays around 12 pm — usually as busy as it gets.
Canberra Airport is a small and beautiful airport. Its well-maintained, clean, and easy to navigate. It has a few nice cafes but bit expensive. However, I did have a disappointing experience with the cleanliness of the toilets on one occasion. I checked two different toilets, and unfortunately, both had dirty toilet seats. I noticed a cleaner entering one, so I assumed it would be cleaned shortly. But when I politely pointed out the issue, the cleaner said "It's not your home toilet," which felt quite unprofessional. I chose not to use the toilet and reported the matter to the duty manager. On a positive note, when I was departing from the airport, I used the toilet again and it was clean that time. Airport also has some great spots for taking photos.
Canberra Airport is clean and well-maintained, with helpful and kind staff. There's a good selection of shops, making the travel experience more enjoyable.
Excellent place for easy in and out, smaller airports are often a nice change to the bustle of the larger airports. Looking forward to seeing even more flights in and out as they expand coverage.
Lovely, small airport in Canberra with flights all over Australia. Unfortunately, not many international flights, but they have plenty in Sydney, so it's fine! The airport is very modern, with plenty of glass and natural light, making it very relaxing and comfortable. The seats are a tiny bit dirty though and could be cleaned more, but the floor is visibly clean but obviously not clean, and food options are very limited and not very good.
Canberra Airport is the principal gateway to Australia’s capital city, Canberra, located in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). While primarily a domestic airport handling flights to and from all major Australian cities—Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, and the Gold Coast—it also accommodates a limited number of international services, mainly to destinations in New Zealand, Fiji, and Singapore, as well as seasonal flights to Asia. The airport serves a diverse mix of passengers: government officials, professionals attending conferences in the capital, tourists visiting national monuments and museums, as well as residents of Canberra and the surrounding region. With a single terminal designed for efficiency, the airport is compact and easy to navigate, making it a stress-free experience compared to larger hubs.
Canberra Airport is situated about 8 kilometres (5 miles) from the city centre, in the suburb of Majura. The drive into central Canberra via Morshead Drive takes roughly 10–15 minutes in normal traffic. For those without a car, taxis and ride-share services (such as Uber) are readily available at the designated pick-up points outside the terminal. Public bus services, operated by Transport Canberra, also connect the airport to the city and other suburbs; route 3 runs every 30–60 minutes from the airport to the city centre. The airport is easily accessible from the Federal Highway and the M23, which link to the broader road network of the ACT and New South Wales. For cyclists, there is a shared path along Morshead Drive, and bicycle racks are available near the terminal.
Canberra Airport provides a range of amenities designed to enhance passenger comfort and convenience. The terminal is fully wheelchair-accessible, with a wheelchair-accessible car park, entrance, and toilets. Dedicated accessible parking spaces are available in the multi-storey car park close to the terminal entrance. For families, the airport has baby changing tables in the restrooms. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal, allowing travellers to stay connected while waiting for flights. Baggage storage services are offered for passengers who wish to explore Canberra without their luggage—ideal for short stopovers. The terminal includes clean, well-maintained toilets and several seating areas. For those driving, paid parking options include a multi-storey car park (shorter-term, hourly/daily rates) and a paid parking lot (longer-term, economy rates). The airport also has a few retail outlets and eateries; typical offerings include a newsagent, a café, and a bar, though selection may be limited compared to larger airports.
Canberra, purpose-built as the seat of government, is known for its carefully planned layout and abundant green spaces. The city is set against the backdrop of the Brindabella Ranges and centred around Lake Burley Griffin, a man-made lake created in the 1960s. Travellers come to Canberra to explore Australia’s political and cultural institutions, including Parliament House, the Australian War Memorial, the National Gallery of Australia, the National Museum of Australia, and the National Zoo & Aquarium. The region is also famous for its outdoor activities—hiking in Namadgi National Park, cycling around the lake, and hot-air ballooning over the city during the spring festival. Canberra experiences four distinct seasons, with cold winters (often dropping below freezing) and warm summers. The airport’s location in the Majura Valley means it can occasionally experience fog in winter mornings, which may cause minor delays, but overall it is a reliable gateway to the capital.
Canberra Airport is not open 24 hours; it generally operates from around 4:30 AM to 10:00 PM, aligning with flight schedules. Peak hours tend to be around midday and early afternoon (12–1 PM), when several flights depart for Melbourne and Sydney. The airport’s official website (https://www.canberraairport.com.au/) provides up-to-date information on flight arrivals and departures, parking rates, and terminal services. For direct enquiries, the airport’s customer service line is +61 2 6275 2222. Passengers are advised to arrive at least 60 minutes before domestic flights and 90 minutes before international flights. For the latest on security wait times and any temporary changes, check the website or mobile app before heading to the airport.
