Busiest on Mondays around 7 pm — usually as busy as it gets.
A small, clean airport, with modern facilities and plenty of seating. It is situated south of the city itself, about 25km so it's quite a way. It has good WiFi and a couple of shops but - given the size - you can't expect very much, just the essential. Don't arrive too early as the seating area outside check in is quite small and they do not open until two hours before flights are due to depart.
A simple, all purpose airport. Nothing fancy but well maintained and a bit modern. WiFi works, and it's free which is a huge plus. PS: in Jujuy only Personal and Claro work -- so buy a chip at a kiosk for pennies. Also, don't come to the airport early, the counters start working an jour and half before the flights.
The airport itself has good facilities. However, the cafe 7 Sabores is a complete rip off. They couldn't even change the cappuccino (really a cafe con leche) in the menu for a black coffee! The price is high for the products. If you don't want to be served by moody staff who makes you feel you're bothering them, walk a bit more until Antawara to get some nice alfajores and be served by a really nice guy.
Maybe the worst airport I've ever been to! One single restaurant where you can drink a terrible coffee, huge lines for check in, only one departure gate which you cannot enter until your flight is called, which creates huge lines there as well... The entire airport looks like it's falling apart, mould growing on the windows...
Gobernador Horacio Guzmán International Airport (JUJ) serves as the main air gateway to the province of Jujuy in northwest Argentina. Located in the town of Ciudad Perico, it handles both domestic flights and limited international connections, primarily to neighbouring countries such as Bolivia and Chile. The airport is a vital link for travellers heading to the stunning Quebrada de Humahuaca, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the high-altitude landscapes of the Andes. It primarily accommodates commercial airlines like Aerolíneas Argentinas and low-cost carriers, with routes from Buenos Aires and other Argentine cities. The terminal is modest in size but efficiently handles the steady flow of tourists and business travellers drawn to the region’s cultural and natural attractions.
The airport is situated in Ciudad Perico, approximately 30 kilometres southeast of San Salvador de Jujuy, the provincial capital. The journey by road takes about 35 minutes via National Route 9, which connects the airport directly to the city. For those staying in Perico itself, the airport is just a few minutes away. Taxis and remises (private hire cars) are readily available outside the arrivals area, with fixed fares into San Salvador de Jujuy. Alternatively, several bus services operate between the airport and the city centre, providing a budget-friendly option. Rental car desks are present in the terminal, offering flexibility for exploring the region at your own pace. The airport’s location makes it a convenient starting point for trips to the Quebrada de Humahuaca (north), the Salinas Grandes salt flats (west), or the Yungas cloud forests (east).
Gobernador Horacio Guzmán Airport offers a range of amenities designed with passenger comfort and accessibility in mind. For travellers with reduced mobility, the airport provides a wheelchair-accessible car park, entrance, seating, and toilets, as well as wheelchair rental – ensuring a smooth journey from curb to gate. A hearing assistance loop is available for those with hearing impairments, and the facility includes gender-neutral toilets and a changing table for families. Baggage storage is offered, allowing passengers to explore the area without lugging suitcases if they have a layover or early flight. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal, so you can stay connected while waiting. The airport also prides itself on being inclusive and welcoming, with policies that specify being LGBTQ+ friendly and a transgender safe space. Paid parking is available in the lot just outside the terminal, with short-term and long-term rates. While the airport does not have a wide array of shops or restaurants, there are basic cafés and kiosks for snacks and drinks.
Jujuy is a province of dramatic contrasts, defined by the towering Andes and the vast, arid Puna plateau. The region is famous for the Quebrada de Humahuaca, a narrow valley stretching north from San Salvador de Jujuy, where hillsides are painted in shades of red, green, and ochre – most famously at the Cerro de los Siete Colores (Hill of Seven Colours) in Purmamarca. Further north, the town of Humahuaca offers colonial architecture and the Monumento a la Independencia. To the west, the Salinas Grandes salt flats stretch over 200 square kilometres, a stark white expanse against the sky. The altitude here can exceed 3,000 metres, so visitors should acclimatise slowly. Jujuy’s culture is deeply rooted in indigenous traditions, particularly the Quechua and Aymara peoples. The annual Pachamama (Mother Earth) festival in August involves offerings and ceremonies. Local markets, such as the one in Tilcara, sell handwoven textiles, pottery, and llama wool products. The climate is mild year-round, though the rainy season (December to March) can cause landslides on mountain roads. Travellers visit Jujuy for hiking, photography, birdwatching, and experiencing a vibrant way of life that has endured for centuries.
The airport is not open 24 hours a day; its operating hours correspond roughly to flight schedules, typically from early morning until late evening. Peak activity tends to occur around 6 pm and 7 pm, when several arrivals and departures are concentrated. It is advisable to check your flight’s status in advance and arrive at least two hours before domestic departures. The official website (https://www.aeropuertojujuy.com.ar/) provides current flight info, services, and parking details. For direct inquiries, the airport can be reached by phone at +54 388 311-6805. Note that Wi-Fi and baggage storage may have limited hours, so plan accordingly if arriving outside peak times.
