Dr. Antonio Agostinho Neto International Airport (IATA: NBJ, ICAO: FNBJ) is the primary international gateway serving Luanda, the capital of Angola. Named after the country’s first president, the airport opened to commercial traffic in late 2023, gradually replacing the older Quatro de Fevereiro Airport (LAD) as the main hub for long-haul and regional flights. Location & Access

The airport is situated approximately 40 kilometres southeast of central Luanda, in the municipality of Icolo e Bengo, Bengo Province. This location was chosen to overcome the capacity and expansion limitations of the old airport, and to better connect the capital with the country’s interior. The drive from downtown Luanda takes roughly 45–90 minutes, depending on traffic and the condition of the EN-120/Nova Marginal highway. Road access has been improved with a dedicated four-lane Expressway linking the airport to the city, though congestion during peak hours (particularly late afternoon) can be heavy. For now, taxis and private transfers are the most reliable way to reach the airport. Ridesharing services operate in Luanda, but options may be limited. Car rental desks are available in the arrivals hall. Once the future phases of development are completed, a railway link to the city centre is planned, but currently no public bus service directly serves the terminal. Travellers should plan extra time for the journey, especially when departing during the 5–6 pm peak period.
